Praying Psalm 37: Trust, Commit, Wait and Watch
A Psalm of David – King of Israel
When I read Psalm 37, which is one of my very favorites, I see a compare and contrast that is organized into three sections. So naturally I’m going to do a video for each of the sections.
The first video concerns a position of worship an example to the righteous or the children of God. Because this Psalm is in the Bible we can use King David’s example in our prayers to worship God. The second video concerns a warning to everyone who does evil or is seen as an enemy of God. The final video will be about God’s blessings and His recompense. In a whole Psalm 37 covers a large area of what believers can use in their life walk on their narrow path toward heaven with God.
I. The Blessings Of Worship
One of the first blessings in Psalm 37 starts off immediately with worshiping and a compare and contrast pertaining to good v/s evil. Doing Good worships God, evil does not.
A. True Worship Is To Believe and Trust God
v1 Fret not yourself (v/s) because of evildoers;
be not envious of wrongdoers! v2 For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. (Further in this Psalm it states: All who do evil will disappear over time. No one will remember them.)
B. We Must Keep our focus on God and walk in obedience v3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
C. Fellowship with God. v4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. When we lovingly and fearfully delight ourselves in God we will come to realize He is Faithful to who He is. His Presence embodies His loving kindness, His Joy and His desires for our life. As we walk with God as Jesus and Adam did He will speak to us as He did with Jesus and with Adam. He will direct our path by His Holy Spirit if we let Him.
D. When He speaks we must listen and v5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act. When we act in obedience to The Lord’s will we enter into His blessings and promises. He will intervene on our behalf when we cry out to Him.
v6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
E. Patience and worship is the key to His blessings. David tells us, v7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
F. Two wrongs don’t make it right. v8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.
As the King of Israel, David had many enemies both foreign and domestic. He had to press into God and into God’s prophets to find God’s will concerning the issues he was facing. David had to have the perfect will of God on his side because he knew if it was God’s will he would be victorious over the enemies of God. David knew God knew how to deal with His enemies.
Just as David did we must press into God who is our source.
Our King Is Jesus. He is The perfecter of our faith. Our destinies are made complete in Him, by Him and for Him.
In Closing: There is a perfect place to position yourself.
What does: Our destinies are made complete in Him, by Him and for Him mean?
1. In Him (In Jesus) means everything truly from God originated from God and because it IS God it is the very best for our life.
2. By Him means we must be empowered by Him because He is our strength.
3. And for Him means all things must be done to The Glory of God The Father through Jesus Christ His Son empowered by The Holy Spirit.
This is how we Trust, Commit, Wait and Watch
1.Our motivation must always be to bring Him glory. 2.The only way we can do that is by walking in obedience to The Holy Spirit.
3.There is no other way to bear fruit that will stand the test of God’s fire.
4.We must be filled and empowered by The Holy Spirit to bear Godly fruit because He IS God.
